Chicago!
Friday, August 12, 2022
7:00 AM Start
On Chicago's Beautiful Riverwalk (By Columbus Drive)
Organized by The Flutopia Initiative (flutists inspiring musicians to change the world, one concert at a time)
Racers and Walkers will take off to a flute rendition of "Flight of the Bumblebee" instead of a starter gun, performed by 24 Crane School of Music flutists! You'll be serenaded along the beautiful route by Chile's Orquesta de Flautas ILLAWARA, Ireland's Clarion Winds, the Penn State Collective flutists, and at the finish line: University of South Alabama's Celtic Crue flute ensemble. There will be flute-themed prizes!
Proceeds benefit Chicago's "Resilience" empowering victims of sexual assault and the National Flute Association's Diversity and Inclusion scholarships. Come enjoy live music while exercising, forming community spirit and supporting those in need!
The wonderful event sponsors: ALRY Publications, Wm. S. Haynes, PACO Collective, Miyazawa Flutes, Flute Center of New York, The Chicago Flute Club Flutistry of Boston, Andra Bohnet, Julie Maisel and Naomi Seidman!
*Flutopians, if you are registering after the "guaranteed shirt deadline" (7/25) and were hoping for an event shirt, there will be a small number of extra shirts offered on a first come, first served basis on Race Day!

The Flutopia Initiative
The Flutopia Initiative, a charitable organization, whose motto is “flutists inspiring musicians to change the world, one concert at a time” was founded in 2012. Since its founding, The Flutopia Initiative has organized concerts and 5k races, which have collected hundreds of pounds of food and monetary donations for local food banks, in addition to thousands of
dollars raised to benefit Pennsylvania’s Centre Volunteers in Medicine and, internationally, Doctors Without Borders.
Recognized in multiple newspapers and magazines, The National Flute Association featured an introduction of the Flutopia Initiative to its 5000+ members in the Spring 2015 issue. Extending the scope of The Flutopia Initiative to the national and international level, offering benefit concerts, it is also a cultural outreach organization The Flutopia Initiative supporters and musicians have offered financial support, concerts, music lessons and instruments for underserved people throughout the Americas and the Caribbean. Since 2016, The Flutopia Initiative has offered a charitable concert on the eve of each National Flute Association convention in its host city.
