Lake Berryessa provides a gorgeous venue for this triathlon. This is a great event for beginners and a perfect race for seasoned athletes to get ready for the rest of the season. The sprint event entails a half-mile swim, 15-mile bike and 4-mile run. You'll begin your race following a half-mile triangular swim course in Lake Berryessa at Putach Canyon Recreation Area (formerly known as Chaparral Cove or Putah Creek). With water temperatures in Lake Berryessa hovering in the high 60s to low-70s, wetsuits are allowed, but not mandatory. Next, jump on your bike for an out-and-back 15-mile spin along the rolling hills surrounding Lake Berryessa. Finally, you'll find your running legs as you head out for the out-and-back 4-mile course over rolling terrain.
