Take the Lake is a 5K fundraising Run and Walk around Wakefield's scenic Lake Quannapowitt. We pride ourselves on hosting an event which satisfies serious runners and casual walkers and runners alike. Last year, we added a 25 Mile bike ride option into our event. Please consider joining our second class of riders! (*Ride: Cyclists take a different, 25 mile route, and this is a ride, not a race).
Our goal is to raise money and awareness for the New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. In 14 years we have now raised over $200,000 for cancer related charities.
Please join us for our family friendly - walker friendly - runner friendly and rider friendly event as we celebrate survivorship!
What is Take the Lake?
The Take the Lake 5K is a charity run and walk around Wakefield's beautiful Lake Quannapowitt. (Our bicycling component goes on a slightly different route). Since the founding of the race twelve years ago, over 4,600 local walkers and runners have participated in the event and we have raised $200,000 for two cancer related charities (The American Cancer Society and The New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship). We hope you can join us for our 14th annual event on June 29th, 2013! Year after year, runners and walkers, family and friends, children and grandparents have universally enjoyed this event.
Participate as a Team!
We are inviting groups to participate as teams. Form a team with your co-workers or friends, or in honor of a loved one affected by cancer. The number of team members is unlimited and your team shirts, hats etc. are only limited to your imagination. Build a little team spirit with your friends or co-workers at Take the Lake 5K. And now, with the online team registration and fundraising system we are using - you can make it easy for team members and friends to sponsor and support you - or to register as a member of your team.

New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship
The New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship is a nonprofit cancer-inclusive community comprised of survivors, caregivers, friends, professionals, and cancer-specific organizations. Contributions to the Coalition directly advance our efforts to improve the quality of life for all people in New England affected by cancer in three specific ways:
- EDUCATE and provide resources about issues relating to cancer and cancer survivorship,
- ADVOCATE on behalf of those touched by cancer, and to,
- EMPOWER cancer survivors, family members, friends, and caregivers by creating a strong survivorship community, providing an information network, and access to resources, programs and events.
The New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship is proud to partner with the leaders, participants, sponsors and contributors of Take the Lake. Working together, we send the message that there is life, hope, and the opportunity to pursue happiness beyond the diagnosis of cancer.
