Hidden away from the bustle of big cities and off the commuter corridors lies the quiet community of Grand Valley. The largest river within Ontario's borders originates in the highlands of Dufferin County and snakes its 300 kilometer journey to Lake Erie.
One Friday afternoon 30 years ago a deadly tornado cut through Grand Valley, tearing straight down Amaranth Street and heading east.
Running the same path as that tornado, we follow a scenic route that crosses the Grand River 4 times via 3 different bridges.
The Toronto Grey & Bruce Railway line paralleled the River, operating from 1870 till 1984. The Upper Grand Trailway Association now maintains this rail trail which provides over a kilometer of our route.
Well marked and accurate, this 10K circuit was designed for runners. Entrants fly straight down Grand Valley's Main Street, through open countryside, alongside the Grand River, over bridges and 1.6 km of rail trail.
Chip timing, medals overall and 3 deep in age groups, technical t-shirts, refreshments and BBQ afterwards, kids' fun run, great draw prizes, an involved community - it's all good.
Break the course record for a $100 cash award.

You'll want to "Chase the Tornado" every year because it's a perfect 10K - challenging, and because....Grand Valley wants you back!

10K Course Description
Ideal course for runners is challenging and competitive!
Accurately measured 10K. Every km clearly marked.
5K split time called out.
7.2km paved road, 1.2km well packed unpaved road, 1.6km rail trail.
Run down Main Street, Town of Grand Valley. Cross the Grand River 4 times via 3 different bridges.
Uphill at 1.5km, 5.5km, 9.2km.
Very pretty & wide open countryside.

5K Run/Walk Description
Start with the 10K runners and do a loop of the Village of Grand Valley, including views of the Grand River.
Turn around at the '5K turnaround' sign.
New for 2015: Youth Teams (Elementary School) in the 5K Run.

The awards’ ceremony will take place shortly after the last runner crosses the finish line.
Bib Pick-up
Early bib pick-up will be available at the Running Free store at 88 First St. in Orangeville on Saturday, June 6 from noon to 5pm.
On race day, bib pick-up will be available at 8:30 - 9:30 am at the race site at the Grand Valley Community Centre.
