Remembering Chuck Saundercook - An Inspiration to the Dystonia Community
Charles (Chuck) Saundercook was diagnosed in 1972 with generalized dystonia at the age of 11. In 1978 Chuck became one of the first Canadians to receive deep brain stimulation. He improved with the procedure but developed pneumonia and in his weakened state, died at age 16. In his final chapter, Chuck donated his body and brain to help others in furthering dystonia research.

About Dystonia
About the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) Canada
The Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) Canada was founded in 1976 by Samuel and Frances Belzberg of Vancouver, after their daughter was diagnosed with generalized dystonia.
The DMRF Canada is a registered non-profit Canadian charity whose mission is to advance research for more treatments and ultimately a cure for dystonia; to promote awareness and education; and to support the needs and well being of individuals who are affected by dystonia in Canada. Dystonia is a neurological disorder that causes muscles in the body to conract or spasm involuntarily. There is no cure for dystonia.
