Help Jessica raise money

For participating in The 2022 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

My Story…

In October of 2021 I received the life changing news that I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. What was intended to be routine blood work soon turned my whole world upside down. I went from a “healthy” 27 year old with no prior health issues to now wearing a continuous glucose monitor and having to inject myself with Insulin at every meal. Type 1 Diabetes consumes every second of every day and has had a huge impact on me emotionally, physically, socially and financially. It has been hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that this is my new normal but I have been working on thinking positively to not let diabetes define me. I am so thankful for my family, friends and amazing fiancé for supporting me as I navigate through these changes.

I want to raise money for Team Joslin while raising awareness for the diabetes community. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks itself and the pancreas stops producing insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed for survival and without it Type 1 diabetics cannot live. This is not caused by life choices, weight, lack of exercise or poor diet and is not something that can be cured.

Ever since my diagnosis last fall I have picked up running as a hobby, not only to keep my blood sugar under control but it has also been a great way to relieve the everyday stresses that come with diabetes. Those who know me know that I used to hate exercising but over the last few months since running regularly I have felt the best I ever have. I am extremely excited and motivated to challenge myself to complete the 7 mile Falmouth Road Race this summer.

All donations are greatly appreciated and will go towards benefiting the Joslin Diabetes Center. All of the money raised by the Team Joslin program supports the High Hopes Fund at Joslin Diabetes Center. This fund is unrestricted and supports the Center's greatest needs. These funds ultimately contribute to Joslin's capacity to prevent, treat and cure diabetes through cutting-edge research, comprehensive patient care and pioneering education programs. Thank you!
