Five years ago, I had the privilege of attending Genesis' Comedy Night at the Weston Golf Club, where something truly remarkable happened. As I sat in the audience and listened to a patient share his story, I was deeply moved. This young man, who was celebrating his 21st, cherished the simplest milestones in life that many of us take for granted - for instance his first drink. I soon found out that he was not projected to live passed the age of 3. It was then that I realized how important the work of the Genesis Foundation is.

Through its tireless efforts in research and clinical care, the Genesis Foundation has given this patient and many others like him a chance—a chance to embrace the subtle joys of life that would have otherwise been out of reach. Rare intellectual and genetic disorders present unique challenges when it comes to fundraising, as they affect a small population of children and families. However, for those affected, the Genesis Foundation offers a lifeline—a path to a longer, more fulfilling life that we all aspire to lead.
