My Story…
I've joined the Falmouth Road Race One Summit Team because I believe so strongly in the work that OS does for cancer patients and their families.
As a new employee at One Summit, I've seen the impact of our Climb for Courage programs first hand. At Climb for Courage, patients and siblings (ages 5-18) are matched individually with a U.S. Navy SEAL and are guided through a series of rock-climbing challenges derived from a curriculum on Posttraumatic Growth. Since becoming a Navy SEAL requires candidates to overcome near-insurmountable obstacles, the characteristics, and values the SEALs embody make them the ideal mentors to help children develop critical skills that help guide them through their fight against cancer.
Currently, One Summit is the only organization supporting this community's need of addressing the psycho-social aspects of growth through trauma. Funds raised from the Falmouth Road Race will be used to support our Climb for Courage program and will help bring our little warriors and mentors together.
Description
I couldn't be more excited to be part of Team One Summit. The task of running a race may seem daunting but pales in comparison to those suffering from pediatric cancer. It's an honor to participate in this year's Falmouth Road Race in support of One Summit - a nonprofit with a mission of building resilience in kids battling cancer through experiential learning and mentorship with U.S. Navy SEALs.
