The idea is a race management platform that gives race directors an easy-to-use interface similar to a Facebook event page and keeps track of participants, fundraising, volunteers and marketing.
“Essentially what we’re doing is hosting a registration page for running road races,” Laan said. “Along with that there’s a lot of other functionality that a race director like myself would love.”
But the program’s unique twist is its “Groupon model” approach to registration. Runners who sign up and refer friends receive a portion of those registration fees from the race director, Laan explained, a mechanism that’s supposed to not only encourage more participation but act as a marketing tool as well.
