Every Stride Empowers
It’s the 21st Anniversary of the Scotiabank Women against breast cancer 5k! Each year has been a symbolic step forward with sustained momentum for the advocacy of women’s health and wellness.
The Scotiabank Women Against Breast Cancer 5k empowers women, helping them to become stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one's wellness.
The race started in 1999, twenty one years ago. The race began with 300 women running to raise funds for free breast cancer screening at Regional Health Centres nationwide. Often when we are part of something, we may not understand the impact that our single action has, or the potential that the collective has to create a meaningful difference. How amazing is it that two decades later over thousands of women gather together with family and friends, empowered – committed – because they choose to participate in this hallmark initiative for the cause.
To date over 19,000 women have benefited from the programme, and last year, proceeds from the race were donated to The Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society to conduct breast cancer screenings and awareness campaigns in rural communities.
As we look forward to this year’s event, with the theme ‘Every Stride Empowers’, we ask that you continue to support either through your participation and/ or donations, empowering thousands of women throughout the country.
