Pace for the Donkeys is a 5K trail run (walkers welcome!) to be run on the trails and through the fields of the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada, in Guelph, Ontario. It’s fun for all ‘pacers’, and good for donkeys since all proceeds go to them. The race will be timed, but go at your own PACE (just as donkeys do!).

DSC Information
Since 1992, the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada has provided a lifelong home – and haven – to donkeys, mules and hinnies who have been abandoned, neglected and abused – or whose owners who can no longer care for them. There are currently 76 donkeys and mules at the Sanctuary Farm, and 28 more in our approved Foster Farm network.
We envision a world in which the dignity and worth of all creatures is recognized and respected.
Currently, the DSC is funded entirely through private individual donations and community and corporate sponsorships of special events.
Donkey Facts
A group of donkeys is called a pace; hence PACE for the Donkeys seemed a worthy name for a 5K run devoted to helping these wonderful animals.
Donkeys are not native to Canada. Yet thousands have found their way here and require special care in this wet, cold climate.
Donkeys are part of the equine family, which also includes horses and zebras.
Female donkeys are called jennies (or jennets) and males are called jacks.
Donkeys can live for 30-50 years in captivity (about 10 to 25 years in the wild). This could explain the phrase “Donkeys Years”.
One theory about why donkeys have large ears is that they help keep them cool. Another theory is that those large ears make a far-away bray much easier to hear.
Donkeys have an incredible memory – they can remember places and companions for up to 25 years.
For thousands of years donkeys have been the ‘helping hooves’ of humankind – they are the original beasts of burden.
Donkeys are stoic, rarely showing pain. They are curious, gentle, calm and friendly creatures.
