There's a lot of gray area having to do with the Pilgrims and their voyage across the sea aboard the Mayflower; but one thing we can pretty much assume with certainty is that amongst the famine and plague, when the Mayflower finally hit the Plymouth Rock, at least one of the Pilgrims turned to another and said "Hey... I bet in 400 years there will be a road race that ends right here".
Yes, the July 4th festivities in Plymouth, Mass. are among the largest in the country, and for good reason. There are an estimated 100,000 people who fill the streets of America’s Hometown to participate in the road race, parade, and fireworks display. The road race kicks the day off right before the parade and is the only road race in the world that can boast a finish line at the birthplace of America, on America's birthday.
It's going to be hot, that's why we have put extra efforts into cooling amenities for when you cross the finish line including industrial misting fans, plenty of water and singlets for race shirts. Planning is everything, so for those who do not wish to stay for the parade, there will be busing provided for a speedy exit from the finish line so you can make it to your guiltless BBQ, because hey, you ran a 5K this morning!
There is so much that makes this country great, so dress to impress in your red, white and blue, and come get your America on!

Course
Our course is the same as the parade route, and will take place just before the parade steps off onto Court St. We will be running through the city center, and down to the waterfront right next to the Plymouth Rock where it all began! What other July 4th road race can boast such a sexy finishline? Scheduled busing will allow runners a chance to avoid being stuck downtown if they choose to not stay for the parade.
Location
This is a point to point course; runners will begin in Cordage Park, and finish on the waterfront next to the Plymouth Rock. Runners will be offered busing to and from a remote parking lot. Parking details are listed below.
Parking
The course is point-to-point from Hedge Road (GPS 360 Court Street) to Plymouth Rock on Water Street. We are able to provide 3 parking options for the race:
- OPTION 1: Park at Plymouth North High School, 41 Obery Street, and take the shuttle to the start. Shuttles will run from 6:30 am - 7:30 am. The race will start at 8:00 am with no delay in the start time due to late arrivals as we have to have all runners across the finish line and the course cleaned up before the parade begins at 9:15 am.
- OPTION 2: Have a non-running family member or friend drop you off at Cordage Park. If you are meeting them at the finish line, they should refer to the Park Plymouth website (www.parkplymouth.com) for all of the parking details and locations.
- OPTION 3: For those who are really ambitious, run to the start from your home as a warm up or park down in Plymouth Harbor and run to the start.
THERE IS NO RACE PARKING AT THE START OR AT ANY OF THE SURROUNDING BUSINESSES NEAR THE STARTING LINE. THESE AREAS ARE ALL BEING USED FOR STAGING FOR THE PARADE.
If you use the provided shuttle service to the start, you will also have the option of using the shuttle to return you to your car at Plymouth North High School after the race. Shuttles will be available to take you back to Plymouth North from 8:30 am - 9:30 am and will leave from Stephens Field on Union Street.
Charity
A portion of the proceeds from this race will be used as a donation towards the July 4th Committee to help them reach their goal for the fireworks display.
