The YMCA of Central Ohio and the City of Delaware Parks and Recreation Department invite you and youth 12& under to participate in the 36th Annual Dave Staley Triathlon & Youth Triathlon. The triathlon is designed to be a fun event for all individuals regardless of their fitness and experience level.
Distance Options(s):
Adult (13 & older): 400m pool swim +13 mi mile bike+ 3.1 mi run
Youth (Ages 6-8): 50m swim+1 mi bike+ 0.5 mi run
Youth (Ages 9-10): 100m swim+2 mi bike+1 mi run
Youth (Ages 11-12): 150m swim+3 mi bike+1 mi run
This event is about enjoying it, and being a well-rounded athlete that has the perserverance to do three disciplines back to back.

Parking: Please park in the main parking lot to the LEFT as you arrive at the Park. Check-in area is located by transition. Do NOT park behind the pool or next to the pool area.
Amenities & Awards
All participants receive an event shirt and swim cap as part of the Check-in. Note: Adult and youth size shirts are available. Size selected will be size ordered and dsitributed at check-in. No size exchanges until after the event is completed and all participants have checked-in.
All finishers will receive a finishers medal.
There are no awards for youth distances. Adults TBD.
Participant Race Time = 1 Time
Your triathlon time begins when you cross the timing mat and enter the pool. Your time continues until you cross the Finish line after completing the run. Results will indicate 1 time for the entire event and not be broken down into your respective splits.
You will be issued a disposable timing band which is to be secured around your ankle and remain on your ankle until you cross the finish line. Once you cross the finish line, remove the band and throw it away. Do not re-cross the finish line with your band on your ankle.
Dave Staley Triathlon History
This year marks the 36th running of the Dave Staley Triathlon & Youth Triathlon. Several thousand triathletes have participated and made the beginner-friendly and recreational triathlon their first experience with triathlon. The triathlon named after retired Ohio Wesleyan University professor Dave Staley was created to provide a fun opportunity for individuals of all ages to combine swim, biking, and running.

Youth Triathlon
The Dave Staley Youth Triathlon is a non-competitive, fun and safe event designed for ages 6-13 years old. We promote and celebrate participation in three fun "lifestyle" sports - swimming, biking, and running. Our philosphy is "Let's have FUN!" with an emphasis on completing vs competing.
Parents: After your youth finishes, we asked that you stay with your child at the Finish Line until the last youth finishes in that triathlon. We want a festive, fun finish line experience for all kids participating regardless of whether they are first or last.
Swim Start
The Dave Staley triathlon swim takes place in the Mingo Park pool. There are eight designated lanes for the swim. To accomodate all athletes, the swim portion will progress as follows:
Adult Swim Course
Note: Swim progression is new in 2016> Swimmers will line-up based on predicted time submitted during registration. First swimmer will enter the pool followed by the next swimmer approximately 8-10 seconds later. The length of the pool is 25 yards. Athletes will swim counter clockwise down-n-back in the lane, enter next lane under rope, repeat until they have swam down-n-back in all 8 lanes to complete their 400 yard swim.
Youth Swim Course
Two swimmers will be assigned per lane. The length of the lane and is 25 meters. Athletes will swim back-n-forth within their 25 meter length until completion of their respective laps.
1 lap = 50 yards (or two down-n-back)
150 yards = 3 laps
100 yards = 2 laps
50 yards = 1 lap
Upon completion of their respective lap, athlete will exit the pool area and head into transition.
