Grant-A-Starr Annual Fun Run
The 9th Annual Grant-A-Starr Foundation Family 5K &1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is back again with a board of exemplary teens looking forward to organizing another successful event to celebrate the life of Grant Starr. The event will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Sugar Land Memorial Park. The event will include both a 5K chip timed race on the USATF course and a 1-mile event. A community oriented post-race party will follow the awards presentation. As always, there will be plenty of food, freebies, and fun for the whole family.
The Grant-A-Starr Foundation is a non-profit organization for the purpose of saving children’s lives through the advancement of rapid detection of life-threatening childhood infections such as encephalitis and meningitis. The teens have a passion to raise funds for the advancement of rapid diagnostic testing, which will help to reduce the time to identify a child’s illness from days or weeks to mere hours. The foundation was created as a result of the loss of a child, Grant Starr, at Commonwealth Elementary School in Sugar Land, Texas. The diagnostic tools were simply not adequate to identify Grant’s illness and save his life. Many of the student board were friends and classmates of Grant. Enjoy the Post Race Party! At the conclusion of the race local bands will provide entertainment, refreshments served by local establishments and games for the kids. Awards will be presented to the top finishers in each event.
Everyone MUST be officially registered with a GASFFR race number visible on front.
