A run event in cooperation with the Canada Day festivities July 1-3, 2017. The Last One Standing- 48 hr ultra run for teams or individuals is an endurance run event open to individuals and teams. The race takes place within the village limits of Nakusp, British Columbia using the village waterfront trails, parks, and pathways. We are located on the Arrow Lakes in the heart of the Kootenays.
The premise of the race is that competitors would have to run a 6.25 km course every hour, on the hour, for 48 hours straight. At the top of every hour starting at noon on Saturday July 1st for the next 48 hours. Runners would need to 'toe the line' and complete the 6.25 km course before the top of the next hour (a total of 300 km over 48 hours). Competitors who complete all 48 laps, and have the lowest combined time wins. The terrain of this race is 85% on dirt trails & grass, trails will be heavily marked.
The race will be competitive and needs to be taken seriously as racers try to compete as an individual or on a team of 2. Teams of up to 4 or up to 8 can be serious but also festive and can have fun taking turns running the loops and enjoy a long weekend of camping in beautiful Nakusp and take part in Canada Day activities.
This event will be held downtown to add to the excitement of the weekend, and encourage visitors to also partake in the Canada Day celebrations, shop and support the local merchants while here. Canada Day events include: the parade, kids games, live music, vendors, beer garden, and fireworks! The public beach is also just steps away, if you need to cool down or want to take a dip.
The Zeleznik Soccer Field/Ball Diamond field will be our start/finish staging area, the area surrounding the field is a place for participants to set up a tent for rest/fuel stops, showers available at the campground, and we will have bathrooms next to the ball diamond.
Participants will receive a complementary barbecue dinner Saturday evening (July 1) & Sunday evening (July 2) and breakfast Sunday morning (July 2) & Monday morning (July 3). Also, you will enjoy a catered dinner for our awards banquet Monday evening (July 3) prepared by a local cater Deb Guest at the Senior’s Hall just a few steps away from your campsite.
