Ride iconic Sydenham Hill to help defeat Duchenne.
Max's Big Ride is partnering with Dundas' premiere coffee and cycling destination, Grupetto and Burlington's MEC to present the second annual Max's Big Climb - to raise money for a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. 100% of the proceeds from this event will go to help find a cure for DMD via the registered charity Jesse's Journey.
One hundred years ago the route up Sydenham Hill was known as Horse Kill Road, 'a climb that taxed the strength of oxen but was beyond the strength of horses'. More recently Sydenham has been made famous by decorated Canadian Olympian Clara Hughes and been ridden over 17,000 times on Strava. MBC competitors set the fastest times ever recorded on the hill Canadian Cycling Magazine called 'nasty' during last year's race.
On Saturday, July 15, we'll have four events on iconic Sydenham; individual time trials, the 'King and Queen of the Mountain' contest, an hour-long 'Horse Kill Relay' team event and the untimed 'Hill Challenge' ride.
Max's Big Climb promises to be an exciting event for both riders and spectators and a staple of the local cycling calendar in years to come.
Make your own mark on Sydenham!
The Individual Time Trial - the 'Race of Truth'
Riders will race the hill individually against the clock. All riders will be professionally timed and ranked according to their gender and age groups. The fastest rider in each category will be recognized and awarded a race ribbon. The fastest eight men and women will progress to the King and Queen of the Mountain competition below.

The King and Queen of the Mountain
The fastest eight men and women overall from the individual time trials will be seeded for the head-to-head Knockout Stages. In the Knockout Stages, winners will advance and race twice more to determine a 'King' and 'Queen of the Mountain' for 2017.
The Horse Kill Relay
Teams of four will have one hour to ride the hill as many times as they can in a relay format. The next rider in line can start once the rider ahead has crossed the finish line. Most total times up the hill in one hour wins. Easy! In the event of a tie between teams, the win will go to the team that has raised the most money in pledges to help defeat Duchenne. Each team must have at least one woman - more if you'd like :)
The Hill Challenge
Riders in this event can tackle the hill at their own pace without the pressure of the clock or a race. Ride your own bike, rent a Sobi or bring a unicycle. Whatever you ride, the goal is to get to the top, maybe for your first time ever!
We'll reward you for your efforts with a finisher's ribbon and an ice cream - and you'll help us in our fight to defeat Duchenne.
You've got nothing to lose!
Fundraising
We are encouraging all riders to gather pledges from their family and friends to help fund this all important research. Your efforts could help make Max's generation the first to survive this fatal disease. Click here to learn about our cool incentives.
