Downsville, NY 5th annual color 5K run, walk and paddle race. Offering a 1/2 marathon option this year!

7:00AM start for 1/2 marathon

8:30AM start paddle portion of duathlon

9:00AM 5K Walk 

9:30AM 5K Run & race portion of duathlon

10:00 AM Kids Color Dash (1/10th of a mile dash to the finish line for those 11 yrs and younger who can't complete a full 5K)   

HOW TO REGISTER:

 

You may register online or through paper entry. Only participants who register before 9/15/17 by 5pm will receive a free long-sleeve race shirt. No shirts are available after this date. We will be offering black or neon yellow beanie hats with the race logo for additional purchase at $15. 

 

Participants can also mail in their registration with entry fees by printing off the form by printing it off from our website at www.bestdam5k.com.

$8 per individual entry (11 yr. and younger), participants still recieve a bib and a Best Dam Race Cape!

Participants will be able to pick up their race packet the day before the race on Friday 9/29/17 from 4PM to 7PM. Otherwise you will receive your race packet the day of the race when you check-in. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your race start time. Late arrivals may not be able to be accommodated. No refunds will be given.

RACE DETAILS:

 

5K RUN or WALK PARTICIPANTS ONLY:

 

The start line for the road race is at the Corbett Community Hall in Corbett, NY. Please see a map of the course byclicking HERE. Buses will be used to transport participants to the start line from the registration and parking area at the American Legion Post 167. Participants must arrive by 8:30 AM to catch the last bus to the start line at 8:45 AM! The course will be officially timed. Runners will follow appropriate 5K signs to complete their race. The 5K will finish on Bridge Street near the Covered Bridge. Police, safety cones and signs will be alerting motorists to the race area. Color powder areas are located every 0.5 miles along the 5K portion of the course.

 

The color powder shows up best on both white and dark colored clothing. We do recommend not wearing anything you don't mind being stained as we've had mixed results getting it completely out of clothing. Don't worry, we are health freaks and the colors used are non-toxic and washable. 

 

Strollers are welcome. Children in strollers are FREE and do not need to register for the race.

 

Young children not registered for the race must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Sorry no dogs allowed.

 

 

DUATHLON PARTICIPANTS ONLY (6K PADDLE RACE/5K RUN):

There are no separate classes for the paddle race. All canoes/kayaks despite their weight or size will be accepted. Men and women will compete against each other as mixed teams will be allowed. You may participate as a single person or a team of 2 or 3 (2 people in a boat and 1 person running). There must be 1 team member who is 18 or over. Boaters under 18 may not participate as a single entry in the duathlon. Boaters may drop off their boats at the Covered Bridge Park before going to the American Legion Post 167 to park and register. Volunteers will watch your equipment while you park and register. After you park, register, and pick up your race packet please walk back to the Covered Bridge Park to await the start of the duathlon. The race will start at 9:00am so please arrive at least 30 minutes beforehand.

 

Boaters must wear a Coast Guard approved life vest. Only 2 people allowed maximum per boat. 1 person must be doing the running portion of the race following the paddle leg. Paddlers will drop-off their boats at the Covered Bridge Park (canoe or kayak rentals are also available through Al's Sports Store, please click the link HERE) and then go to the American Legion Post 167 to park and register. The paddle race will begin at the Covered Bridge Park and will end at the Corbett Bridge in Corbett. You can see a map of the course by clicking HERE

At least 1 member of the duathlon team must run. If all members are running the fastest run time will be used for the official time for the team. Team members who are just doing the paddle portion will be bused back to the Legion after the race. You may arrange your own boat pick-up or we will have boat transport back to the Covered Bridge Park. Runners will follow appropriate 5K signs to complete the last leg of the race. The running portion will finish on Bridge Street near the Covered Bridge. Color powder areas are located every 0.5 miles along the course.

1/2 MARATHON:

 

Registration and parking is at the American Legion. Starting line is at the Covered Bridge near the finish line. 

Course is still to be determined but a portion of it will along the color run 5K. No participants under 13 allowed at this time. Start time is 7:00AM, please arrive 30 minutes ahead of time to register and park. You will NOT need to catch a bus to the start line.

 

KIDS COLOR DASH: Start time is 10am. Register at the legion at least 15 minutes prior to start time. Start line will be a the intersection of River Street and Bridge Street near the finish line. The course is 1/10th of a mile.

This race is for participants (11 and under) who are unable to complete a 5K but still want to race. Participants will recieve a race bib and cape. There will be multiple color stations along the dash route to allow for maximum fun!!!

POST-RACE:

Awards will be given in the categories below:

 

Duathlon Race: Top 2 teams or individuals

5K Walk: Top 2 walkers (male or female)

5K Run: 1st/2nd men (13 and over), 1st/2nd women (13 and over), 1st/2nd boys (12 and under), 1st/2nd girls (12 and under)

1/2 Marathon Run: 1st/2nd men (13 and over), 1st/2nd women (13 and over)

 Color Dash: no top prizes given but everyone will recieve a finisher ribbon.

The awards ceremony is set to take place at 11:00 AM or as soon as all the results are in.

There will be an official timer for the 5K and 1/2 marathon race. Results will be posted online on this website and social media platforms.

 

Bathrooms will be available at the parking site, starting line and at the finish.

11K Paddle/Run Single Entry

KIDS COLOR DASH

1/10th of a mile dash to the finish line. Kids 11 and under are welcome to participate who are not able to complete a full 5K can experience the fun of a little run, color station, and 'finish'. $8 Pre-Registration fee and receive a COLOR DASH CAPE - $10 for DAY OF Registration (Can't guarantee COLOR DASH Cape for Day-Of registrations)

5K Walk 12 & under

1/2 Marathon

Registration and parking is at the American Legion. Starting line is at the Covered Bridge near the finish line. Course will be clearly marked along the route and water stations will be available. No participants under 13 allowed at this time. Start time is 8:00AM, please arrive 30 minutes ahead of time to register and park. You will NOT need to catch a bus to the start line.
