The Arc of Chemung’s recreation program creates recreation, socialization and leisure opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in the community are very often socially isolated and lack the social skills to pursue a life with meaningful relationships. The Arc of Chemung’s recreation program provides people supported with the opportunity to experience social interaction in an environment with professional oversight where these skills can be taught. People who lack these opportunities often find themselves increasingly socially isolated and secluded as their social skills deteriorate. Activities include bowling, swimming, dances, Special Olympics and occasional day trips.
