Kidz 4 Causes

Raise money for Kidz 4 Causes

Kidz 4 Causes is a charity founded 2 and a half years ago by four

current ninth grade boys: Michael Bendok, Xander Black, Matthew Linehart, and

Samuel Steiner who wanted to make a difference in their community by

raising money for rare disease research. A young boy named Harry in our

community developed a rare lung disease a few years ago called Obliterative

Bronchiolitis. Harry was left with permanent scar tissue on his lungs and only

30% lung capacity. A disease is considered rare when it effects less than 200,000

people at any given time. However, because there are over 7,000 different rare

diseases, they impact nearly 1 in 10 Americans and over 350 million people

world wide! Even more disturbing is the fact that 95% of rare diseases do not

have a single FDA approved drug treatment and 30% of children with a rare

disease will not live to see their fifth birthday. Despite these astonishing statistics,

rare diseases have a hard time competing for research dollars. Inspired by Harry

and these startling statistics, we decided to form our Kidz 4 Causes charity in

an effort to help those unfortunate people who have a rare disease. We plan to

continue and even expand our charity throughout our high school careers and

beyond in hopes of making a difference in our community and other people's

lives.
