Jean Derting Scholarship Fund

During the 1970-71 school year, the George T. Wilkins School PTA began the process of developing a scholarship for graduates of School District 109.  The scholarship was intended to offer money to any student graduating from District 109 to provide financial support for books and various fees associated with college, graduate school and other professional institutions.  The concept of the scholarship program was to promote learning as a life-long process.

In May 1971 the first scholarship was awarded due to the generosity and support from the School District Parent-Teacher Associations and Parent-Teacher Committees.  Since 1971, over fifty-five scholarships have been awarded affording students the opportunity to continue their education and pursue their dreams.
