My Story…

Please consider donating in support of the half marathon I will run on behalf of VAST, a group that supports refugee mental health. I first became aware of VAST's work when I was a law student and volunteered with refugee lawyers in Vancouver. That work opened my eyes to the extent of the trauma experienced by refugees, and also to how ill-equipped the law was to help with that trauma; in fact, the legal process was often itself harmful to refugee's mental health. I was pleased, then, to learn about VAST. VAST is a unique organization which provides mental health counselling and support to refugees in BC who have experienced persecution and torture. This support is critical to ensure that refugees can move forward with their lives in a positive and healthy way. VAST does not have the resources it needs to meet the demand for its services. I greatly appreciate your support.

Description

VAST supports refugees who arrive in British Columbia with psychological trauma resulting from torture, political violence, and other forms of persecution on the basis of race, religion, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
