We are pleased to announce our 2nd Annual Cardiac Kids 5K on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 8:00 AM. The event will take place on the beautiful grounds of the Nemours Estate, adjacent to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. It is sure to be a great event for the whole family to enjoy!
Enter the main gates of the hospital and follow the Event Parking signs. Take the first right toward the tall bell tower under construction, then make your first left into parking lot 5A. Go to the end of that lot and the event will start in front of the pink house. The race itself will go from into the Nemours Estate and back.
My family is excited to participate in the second Cardiac Kids' 5k. This is our second child, Natalia. After twenty-three long days of only holding her hand I was given the amazing opportunity to hold her! I can remember shaking because I didn't know what to expect. It took four or five of the CICU staff to get her to me and a bunch of adjusting and shifting to get both of us comfortable. Natalia did fantastic and maintained her vitals for the two hours she was with me. Although this is not typically what you picture- a freshly born baby plopped on her mother's chest to be held- this was our reality. And it was so precious. I will remember this moment for the rest of my life. Please consider partnering with us to raise money for new chairs for the Cardiac ICU. These chairs will help families and patients as they recover as well as provide for "firsts" just like this.
The Cardiac Kid 5k Run/ 1Mile Walk seeks to raise money for rocking chairs for the Nemours Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). Providing the CICU with these specially designed chairs will have a direct, positive impact on both the child patient, as well as the patient family. The CICU patient (and patient family) journey is often chaotic, stressful and exhausting. Providing the opportunity for rest, relaxation and gentle bonding (rocking a child to sleep) will provide unmeasurable relief, both physically and mentally for future CICU patients. Your support of this race, through Races2Run, will get us closer to our fundraising goal of $15,000 to purchase at least 5 chairs for the Nemours CICU.
