There is something for everyone at the South End Shuffle 5K & Mile Run, the event that has become a South End neighborhood tradition! The 5K starts on W Summit Ave in front of Wooden Robot Brewery and heads into one of the neighborhood’s best assets: The Rail Trail. There is also a 1 Mile Run for those looking for a shorter distance.
The South End Shuffle also offers a festival-like atmosphere with vendors and a post-race party with food, beer, and music at the Wooden Robot Brewery Gastropub & Beer Garden. Participants will get an exclusive shirt, custom finisher’s medal, a free beer (those over 21) or a free popsicle (those under 21).
This event is benefiting the Charlotte Rail Trail in South End and The Purple Promise Foundation to End Melanoma.

Purple Promise Foundation
The Purple Promise Foundation is a not-for-profit charity formed to make the public aware of the personal and public costs of melanoma cancer and ways to better identify and prevent all forms of skin cancer. The Foundation was founded for Jessica. Jessica celebrated her 30th birthday on June 30, 2007. She had just received her Masters Degree in Library Science from Catholic University in Washington, DC, and was looking forward to her second wedding anniversary with her husband in July. During a family vacation in August, she announced she was expecting her first child. Life was good...... Then in September, Jessica received a phone call that would change her life...

The Charlotte Rail Trail
The 4.5 mile trail connects communities and knits together neighborhoods from Sedgefield, Southside Park, Brookhill, Dilworth, Wilmore, and South End to Uptown, but it belongs to everyone in the Queen City. The Rail Trail is the place to discover cafés and bars, explore galleries, see artists at work, stumble upon an impromptu concert, stroll with your family, or relax on a bench and watch the city come alive around you. The walkway alongside the Blue Line already exists, but it could be so much more. With the help of passionate supporters, today’s trail will be transformed into a network of gardens, public art, unique spaces and activities, and an endless string of places to sit, eat and play. The hardest part of building a trail—acquiring the land—is already done and a foundation has been laid. Let’s turn it into something extraordinary.
