Race Day Volunteering opportunities (Sunday April 26th)
Barricades:
Great for groups! Set-Up and Tear-Down of the barricades blocking major intersections. Making sure that no car is permitted to drive on the course. This is very important for runner's safety, it is our main priority. Barricade is one of the most important volunteer position to make sure a race goes smoothly.
*Dress warmly (bring scarf, hat and mitts, raincoat and umbrella if it might rain) and bring something to do during down time (book, Ipod, etc.) as shifts are over 5 hours.
Shifts can be up to 5 hours, 7:30am - 1pm
Course Marshal:
Great for groups! Making sure the course stays safe and clear of spectators,cyclists, etc. Direct runners and walkers to stay on course, take care of 5K and 10K turnaround.
*Dress warmly (bring scarf, hat and mitts, raincoat and umbrella if it might rain) and bring something to do during down time (book, Ipod, etc.) as shifts can be over 5 hours.
Shifts can be up to 5 hours, 7:45am - 1pm
Water Stations:
Great for groups! Water station volunteers will help runners along the race course by handing out water, sports drink, and your encouragement to make it through their race.
*Dress warmly (bring scarf, hat and mitts, raincoat and umbrella if it might rain) and bring something to do during down time (book, Ipod, etc.) as shifts are over 5 hours
Shifts can be up to 5 hours, 7:45am - 1pm
Security/Parking (18 years or older, or accompanied by an adult):
Ensure participants remain in designated crossing areas, directing volunteers, participants and spectators in parking their vehicles in an organized manner in either the Terry Fox Athletic Facility or Hog's Back Park. You will be asked questions and will likely have to give directions. You may be asked to provide security, and vehicle and crowd control during the Family-friendly 1K race.
Shifts are 7:30am - 12:00 pm
Event Area:
-Floaters (9 am - 1 pm): If you are only available for a short period, this is the position for you. Floaters help out where it is needed in the event area positions, including put up and take down tents, the last hour of bag check if needed.
-Start/Finish Line (8 am - 12 pm): At the Start Line (Hog’s Back Park), you will be required to keep the participants and spectators separate to ensure the runners and walkers' safety; as well as give directions, answer questions, and offer aid and assistance as needed. At the Finish line, your job will be to cheer and encourage the participants as they approach the Finish Line, hand out water and medals. You will also keep an eye out for athletes that may be disoriented or in need of first aid.
-Bag Check/Lost and Found (8 am - 12 pm) (great for a 2 people who want to volunteer together)
Shifts are from 8am - 12pm, or 9am - 1pm
Registration Area (18 years or older, being bilingual is an asset):
This volunteer opportunity involves 1 of the following 5 tasks:
-Registration
-Race Kit Pick-up
-Information Desk
-Selling T-Shirts
-Assisting timing crew
You will work at the Hog’s Back registration area, including: handing out bibs, race kits, and t-shirts, helping with race day registration, and assisting the timing crew. You will be asked a lot of questions – but be assured, someone will be on-hand to help you. This position usually begins very early, 7:30 am but will be finished by 11:30 am. You may be asked to move at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility to help out with the 1K on-site registration at 10 am.
Shifts are from 7:30am - 11:30am
Event Tear Down
This opportunity takes place after the event at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility. Volunteers will help take down the event area and put away the equipment.This opportunity involves lifting barricades, chairs, table, and other equipment.
Shifts are from 12 pm – 4 pm
Friday April 24th and Saturday April 25th volunteering opportunities
Race Kit Pick Up (Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th)
(18 years or older, being bilingual is an asset)
Giving out race kits and race bibs to participants, and late registrations.
Friday: 3:30pm - 8:30pm (Running Room on Bank St.)
Saturday: 9:30am - 2:30pm (Terry Fox Athletic Facility)
Event Set up (Saturday, April 25th)
This opportunity takes place on the day before the event. Volunteers will help organize and set-up the event area at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility. This opportunity involves lifting barricades, chairs, table, and other equipment.
