Choose from a 5km or 10km run or a 1km walk along the beautiful Grand River trail system, collect sponsors, compete for the Individual or Team Fundraising Prizes, and help raise community awareness. All proceeds support survivors of sexual violence through SAC Brant, so your support directly helps create Healing and Change in our community!
A registration fee of $35 per person is due at check-in on Run Day, but if you raise more than $100 in donations that fee is waived. The $35 fee covers your participation in the run and official Lynnsie's Run 2020 t-shirt (while supplies last). When you sign up your online fundraising page is created automatically. Why is Lynnsie's Run so important?
Sexual assault centres in Ontario are in a state of crisis. In March 2018 we were ecstatic as the government pledged to increase our core funding by 33 percent for the next 3 years. Following the 2018 election the newly elected PC government cancelled the planned increase and instead gave a one-time cash infusion of $1 million distributed among the 42 centres; SAC Brant received $17,000, compared to the $72,000 per year that had been committed. Since then the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres has been lobbying Queen’s Park to at least annualize this small funding increase, but on March 5 we were told they would not.
What does this mean for SAC Brant?
In 2018, facing continually expanding caseloads and the very real possibility of burnout for our existing counsellors, we budgeted the pledged increase towards hiring an additional full-time counsellor. We were able to maintain that position through 2019 thanks to you – our supporters – and the $24,000 you raised through Lynnsie’s Run 2019.
To maintain our current counselling staff and programming, we need to make Lynnsie’s Run 2020 our BIGGEST EVER. Last year's run had over 200 registrants. If every participant this year raises just $200, we will:
✔ CRUSH our goal of $40,000
✔ Ensure survivors of sexual violence continue to receive much-needed support
✔ Send the loud and clear message that we believe in #HealingAndChange and #WeBelieveSurvivors.
Lynnsie's Run is named in in honour of beloved Centre Sister Lynnsie Feijo, the Centre's first public educator and former president of the board. Lynnz was an avid runner and we could think of no better way to celebrate her dedication to creating Healing and Change in Brantford and Brant County.
