Our Mission

To provide access to palliative care for residents of Milton and Halton Hills, serving the needs of terminally ill people and their families. To provide individualized care based on trust, integrity and personal choice offering physical, social, emotional and spiritual support in a comfortable and compassionate environment.

To improve the quality of life for people with a life-limiting, progressive illness. The focus is on caring, not curing. Hospice care embraces family members and caregivers and will be free to residents of Milton and the surrounding area, thanks to the donations from members of the community.

The modern hospice movement began in England with the opening of St. Christopher’s Hospice in London in 1967. It was founded by an English woman named Dame Cicely Saunders. Through her work as a social worker, nurse and then a doctor, she came to realize that we needed “to concern ourselves with the quality of life as well as its length.” She focused on the person as a whole and included their family and friends within that care. Since that time the philosophy of fostering a quality of life rather than prolonging the dying process has spread worldwide.
