Fred's Freedom Run

Join me on July 3rd by walking 1 mile or running 4.2 miles to celebrate Fred Kampf

4 years ago Parkinson's started taking away much of Dad's ability to do the things he loves. Caring for his houses, fire department work, yard work, and other everyday activities have just become too hard. For a hard working, never say stop, man this has become increasingly frustrating. There are bad days and there are good days, but that comes with the battle of a Parkinson's diagnosis. Even through all of these struggles Dad pushes through each day with admirable perseverance determined to continue helping others.

COVID has unfortunately cancelled one of Fred's favorite events, the Fourth of July parade. Due to current restrictions limiting large gatherings, a surprise 80th birthday party plan had to be cancelled.

I have decided to celebrate Fred's 80th birthday by creating Fred's Freedom Run to support Parkinson's research.

Why a virtual run? I'm glad you asked. In high school, Dad once ran the mile in 4:20. It seemed fitting to have an event where endless people could participate from anywhere. The 1 mile is in honor of him running the mile and the 4.2 miles is for his time of 4:20.

Why call it a Freedom Run? 1. Dad proudly and honorably served in the US Army fighting for our country's freedoms we have today. 2. Fighting for the freedom to one day having advances in Parkinson's research and a cure.

Dad has taught me many things over my 42 years in what it is to be a man. He has an undying desire to always put others before himself. A humbleness that speaks to his passion for treating everyone as equals and friends. A work ethic that is forgotten in todays society, hard work and commitment to what he believes in. Most of all, a dedication to family that he will go above and beyond for.

On Friday, July 3rd make your movement matter; to celebrate our freedom, Independence Day, to celebrate Fred's 80th birthday, and to support Parkinson's research. Your $8.00 registration (80th birthday) goes directly to The Parkinson's Foundation to make life better for people with Parkinson's disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure.
