Join me on 7.25.20 for some virtual Laps For Lou!
Walk or run, wherever you are, whenever you choose, in memory of my Uncle Lou Tamara, and support Project Purple in our quest for a world without pancreatic cancer.
July 25, 2020 would be my Uncle Lou’s 74th birthday,
but pancreatic cancer took him from our family 3 years ago.
It took him far, far too soon and he is dearly missed by all of us.
That year, 2017, my cousin Trish ran the New York City Marathon with me and she raised money for the Project Purple charity team.
Last year we both ran the NYC Half Marathon with Project Purple.
This year, I had a grand plan to run the NYC Marathon - probably for the last time -
to join in the celebration of its 50th Anniversary, and I happily signed up for the Project Purple team.
As we all know, 2020 and Covid-19 had other ideas for all of our best laid plans. The NYC Marathon has now been canceled and the 50th Anniversary celebration will hopefully take place in 2021 instead. But pancreatic cancer has not been canceled, and Project Purple is still counting on the critical funds that runners from this race, and many other canceled ones around the country and the world, would have raised. Project Purple is a wonderful organization that raises funds for pancreatic cancer research, as well as providing financial aid to pancreatic cancer patients. So - I will continue to raise my pledged goal of $3500 and hopefully the team will run together next year.
This is where YOU come in!
Please join my virtual race, Laps For Lou! July 25th is Lou’s birthday and for just $7.25 you can sign up for a virtual 1 mile walk, a virtual 5K, or go all out and do a 7.25 mile birthday celebration!
Why 1 mile?
So everyone - not just runners - can get involved and walk or run a manageable distance in Lou’s memory.
Why 3.1 miles?
Because pancreatic cancer is the #3 killer of all cancers, and there is only a 10% survival rate. That’s right… 10%. Pancreatic cancer is a cruel and painful killer and we need to bring that survival number WAY up!
Why 7.25 miles?
Because Lou’s birthday is July 25th and it seems like a great way to
remember him and celebrate his life on that day.
But really - the cost is the same for each distance - just $7.25. And you can honestly do any distance you like, on any day between now and then that you can. All money raised will go to Project Purple and count toward my $3500 marathon goal. If you wish to donate an additional amount, you will be able to do so at the end of your sign up.
You will be emailed a customized Laps For Lou bib that you can print out if you wish, AND I will enter everyone who signs up into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate from wherever you would like!
Please sign up, get your friends to sign up, and let’s get out there (safely and socially distanced!!) on July 25th and do some Laps For Lou! And be sure to take pictures and share on Facebook and Instagram! Use the hashtags #lapsforlou and #projectpurple and tag us in your posts so we can see all of you out there making a difference in kicking pancreatic cancer’s butt!
💜 Thank you!! 💜
