THE OVARIAN CANCER EDUCATION & RESEARCH NETWORK, INC. (OCERN) WAS FORMED IN 2012 BY A GROUP OF DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS WITH A PERSONAL CONNECTION TO OVARIAN CANCER.

2020 Let’s ROC Run for Ovarian Cancer

It is with deep sadness that we announce the cancellation of this year’s Let’s ROC Run for Ovarian Cancer. The safety and well-being of our event participants, volunteers, event staff, and spectators is our top priority. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the unique impact it continues to pose to our community, we have made this decision in partnership with the City of Sacramento and local public health authorities.

Although we are unable to come together this September to honor the many women and families touched by ovarian cancer, we remain committed to research for the early detection, treatment and cure of this disease. Later this year we will award a $50,000 research grant to initiate new studies or further existing research related to ovarian cancer. Over the past 13 years, we have awarded $175,000 in research grants and have given a voice to the local ovarian cancer community. We are grateful for your participation and hope you will continue to support these efforts because cancer doesn’t stop for COVID and neither do we.

Each year more than 20,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and approximately 15,000 women die annually from the disease.  Unfortunately, most cases are diagnosed in the later stages when the prognosis is poor.  However, if diagnosed and treated early, the five-year survival rate is over 90%. There is currently no accurate screening test for the early detection of ovarian cancer; therefore, it is important to know and understand what the risks and symptoms are.

Let’s ROC is organized by the Ovarian Cancer Education & Research Network, Inc.  The mission of OCERN is to advocate for research for the early detection, treatment and cure of ovarian cancer. We promote ovarian cancer education in our communities and provide a network of resources and support for women and their families. OCERN is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization founded by several dedicated volunteers with a personal connection to ovarian cancer.
