Be part of a family-friendly Thanksgiving tradition. The Burlington Turkey Trot is a 5k run/walk through beautiful Burlington on Thanksgiving Day morning.
The event will be staged at Burlington High School, 400 McCanna Parkway, Burlington.
This year's trot will be a COVID-friendly event. The health and safety of our participants is our top priority. We are taking many steps to ensure that this happens, while also trying to retain the family-friendly Thanksgiving spirit of the event.
This includes:
There will be no packet pickup - either advance or on the day of the race. All packets will be mailed to the address used during online registration. (about a week prior to race)
Registration will all be done online and will close 10 business days prior to the event. There will be no exceptions!
We will have three starting times: 8 AM, 8:45 AM and 9:30 AM. Each starting time will be limited to 250 registrants. We will allow 10 people to start the race each minute. When you register, you will have to choose which of the three starting times you'd like.
The course will be an out-and-back starting and finishing on McCanna Parkway in front of Burlington High School (the same start and finish as in past years). We will place cones down the middle of the road to keep participants who are on the way out separated from the participants who are on the way back.
There will be no awards ceremony after the event. Age group and overall awards will be mailed.
No Refunds will be issued, in the result of cancellation, participants have the option to participate virtually.
Participants have the option to run the race virtually, meaning they don't have to show up at Burlington High School on Thanksgiving morning to run or walk. You can do it any time they'd like. You will still receive their shirt and number in the mail, but will not get an official result. When registering simply choose the virtual option.
The only way to enter an exit the parking lot of the high school will be from the south on McCanna Parkway. (via round-a-bout)
No one will be allowed inside the high school.
Portable restrooms will be located outside near the road.
Refreshments will be provided after the race, but only to take home with you. This will include a bottle of water, milk and some packaged snack items.
We recommend that you wear a mask before and after the run/walk to be respectful to other participants.
We appreciate your willingness to accept these one-time changes. Nearly all running events have been cancelled this year so we feel fortunate that we are able to offer a way to participate in what we feel is a safe manner.
We are offering a team option. Teams must have at least three participants and time is calculated by combining the times of the top three finishers on each team. There is no separate registration for teams; everyone must register as an individual. During the process you can either create a team or join a team that has already been formed.
