This is the 9th annual clinic, where you can learn from fitness, wellness and athletics experts. The clinic is accredited with NASM and NSCA for 0.7 CEUs each. Other organizations that award credits are ACE, ACSM, AFAA, ISSA, NESTA, NETS and NAFC, but you have to go through a petition process. 9-10 am Fall Prevention in Older Adults: A Practical Overview.

Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults. This presentation will present a useful overview of those intrinsic and extrinsic factors contributing to falls and simple steps healthcare providers can use to help their clients mitigate those risks.
10-11 am "Hormones and Athletic Performance."

How your hormones impact training, periodization, competition, injury rehab and treatment. The latest research and actual hormone test results will be dispersed throughout the presentation from a sports injury practice. 11am – 12 noon Legal Standards and Guidelines for Strength and Conditioning Professionals

Participant injuries and resultant lawsuits are of great concern to strength/fitness facility managers, staff and personal trainers alike. This session will provide an overview of the NSCA standards and guidelines for providing reasonably safe fitness programs and will examine what is legally expected of strength and conditioning professionals.

1 -2 pm The ABC’s of Linear and Multi-Directional Speed

This presentation will discuss some of the fundamental biomechanical principles associated with linear and lateral speed while also presenting a few common drills. Specific topics discussed will include linear acceleration, top-end speed mechanics, and change-of-direction techniques.
2- 3 pm Strength Training of the Shoulder Complex in the overhead athlete.

The overhead athlete has unique demands with respect to use and function of their shoulder complex. An appropriate strength training program for the shoulder complex begins with a proper assessment of strength (external / internal rotation rations) and flexibility (compared bilateral), overhead specific shoulder performance tests then shoulder complex strength sequence that reflects the individual demands of the athletes sport in concert with the noted deficits.
3 – 4 pm The impact of rest interval length on volume lifted

Rest intervals, defined as the amount of time taken between sets of exercise, are an overlooked resistance training program variable that influences resistance training performance acutely and chronically. During this presentation, we will review the effects of the rest interval on total load and how this might affect training adaptations.

Topics discussed will span the spectrum from the biomechanics and anthropometrics of the movement and why there is no one size fits all. Industry myths vs journal research like knees and toes. And identifying common faults and how to optimize your client’s movement. Be ready to squat.
