Fighting Skin Cancer on Two Wheels
For a few years now I have wanted to ride in the Gran Fondo, and this year I am going for it! This race is personal for me, as 6 years ago I lost my first husband to skin cancer. Now, I am an oncology nurse, and I have the opportunity to take care of others fighting cancer. Please come along side of me in fighting for more treatments and awareness preventions of skin cancer. It does make a difference and every year someone's husband, mother, friend, brother are finding treatments to treat their skin cancer so that they can live one more, five more, twenty more or fifty more years. Most of us have known people who have personally fought the battle against cancer. Through modern treatments and much grace, some have survived. Others have not. The MSU Gran Fondo is my opportunity to get some skin in the game and provide hope for nearly 70,000 people in the U.S. expected to be diagnosed with melanomas of the skin this year.
Funds raised from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Gran Fondo support skin cancer awareness, prevention and research at MSU. These dollars are funding pilot studies – investigative, next-step research that tests findings and enables a scientific study to continue.
