My Story...
On May 31, 2019 – our daughter, Alexandra Richardson, started chemotherapy at Princess Margaret Hospital for stage-4 Berkitts Lymphoma. It required harsh and painful treatments – with little respite for months.
Camp Ooch allowed Alexandra to spend “normal” time with her teenage peers while maintaining the medical-care she needed. It is a very special-place with canoes, campfires and chemo-nurses. All things she needed – and loves.
Alexandra is now cancer-free and in post-chemo recovery. Her friends from Camp Ooch have been a great source of fun and laughter during two long years with many dark times.
This year, on May 30, 2021 – I will be doing 10 KM to raise funds for Camp Ooch, to thank them for all they have done for our daughter.

A diagnosis of childhood cancer changes life in an instant.
For affected kids and families, it can suddenly feel like everything is about cancer. Camp Ooch offers a hopeful journey, where kids with cancer can just be kids, and families connect with a community of strength and support when they need it the most.
They are much more than a summer camp—they offer the social cure for childhood cancer. Their camp-inspired programs deliver fun, friendship, and community to 1,900 kids and 745 families year-round, all across Ontario. As a response to COVID-19, virtual camp and in-hospital programs continue to reach kids and families living in isolation, wherever they are.
