Volunteer Information
The Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic (PGDC) Race Weekend Events would not be what they are today without the thousands of Rooms To Go (RTG) Volunteers that every year give of themselves and step up to their own Start Line. Please review the information on this page, and when you are ready, click the Volunteer button on the right to register.
Volunteers will help with Race Number Pick Up and/or T-shirt Distribution during the 8 On Your Side Health & Fitness Expo. No volunteer orientation is required to participate. All volunteer task require standing and/or walking for long periods.
- Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
- All volunteers must wear a mask, which covers the nose and mouth, throughout their shift and while in the Tampa Convention Center.
- Volunteers are asked to arrive a least 15 minutes before their scheduled shift start time to check-in at the Volunteer Desk prior to proceeding to their assignment. You will receive the following items at check-in:
- Rooms to Go PGDC short sleeve volunteer T-shirt, which you are expected to wear
during your shift (s), - Meal ticket,
- Bottle of Zephryhills Spring Water,
- Parking voucher (if not already provided electronically).
- Rooms to Go PGDC short sleeve volunteer T-shirt, which you are expected to wear
Once you complete and submit your Volunteer Registration Form, your name and contact info will be added to our list. We will contact you closer to the event to confirm your role, location, date and time(s).
Volunteer Groups
If you are a member of a Florida not-for-profit organization and have a group of 15 or more people who want to volunteer together as a group, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator to learn about our exciting opportunities.
Covid-19 Mitigation Plan
To offer an In-Person Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend, the Gasparilla Distance Classic Association has created and received the necessary approvals for a 2021 PGDC Race Weekend COVID-19 Mitigation Plan but will continue to follow the guidance of local Government and Health Officials as it relates to precautions relative to COVID-19.
Please remember, if the cancellation of an in-person 2021 PGDC Race Weekend due to COVID-19 is deemed necessary, the Association will comply and convert all events to a virtual experience. Registered volunteers will be notified electronically of any changes to Race Weekend activities.
- All volunteers will be given a no-touch temperature check upon arrival. Volunteers with a temperature of 100.4 or above (the recommended threshold from the CDC) will be asked to leave).
- All volunteers are required to properly wear a face covering during their shift at all locations. Unfortunately, volunteers without a face covering will not be allowed to work their shift and will be asked to leave.
- Hand sanitizer will be available. Please use the hand sanitizer upon arrival. Remember to wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds under warm water.
- We will have gloves and masks available for volunteers during their shift.
- Deep cleaning – PGDC staff are continuously doing deep cleanings at all our volunteer locations.
- Eliminating handshakes and hugs – Sorry. Air elbow bumps are welcomed!
- Social distancing: accommodations are in place to allow volunteers to perform their duties with reasonable social distancing.
- Stay Healthy – If you are feeling under the weather, we ask that you cancel your registration.
We recommend that individuals who are at high risk of contracting viruses or live with/care for someone in this category refrain from volunteering this year. If you are sick, please cancel your shift -- any volunteer that is showing signs of illness will be asked to leave.
