Welcome to The Crossing Trek 2021!
Please read all of this information before you complete your registration.
Any questions can be directed to trek@waterlooregioncrossing.com
It is important to us that The Crossing Trek is accessible to anyone who wishes to undertake it. If the entry fee is a barrier, please contact Trek Management at trek@waterlooregioncrossing.com.
In 2018, three friends trekked for 20 hours non-stop in the dead of winter to explore the impacts of rapid development on the urban and natural environments of Waterloo Region. The intent was to raise awareness of the risks of exposure for homeless citizens, while raising funds for The Working Centre.
In 2019 and 2020, hundreds of people got involved including trekkers, support crew, community partners, sponsors, local media, and donors. We had collectively fundraised over $97,000 to date, and every dollar has gone to The Working Centre to help build a first-of-its-kind transitional housing and addiction treatment facility serving the most vulnerable members of the community.
In 2021, we are launching our first VIRTUAL trek event. You choose your route and distance. While it won't be the same community vibe as previous years due to Covid-19, the virtual nature of the event allows us to broaden our impact by opening up the event to other communities, and encouraging more people than ever to get involved and walk the walk!
UPDATE
The province of Ontario is currently enforcing stay-at-home orders due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The current stay-at-home order is in place until Feb 9, with the possibility of an extension. "Getting exercise" outside of the home is on the list of permitted activities, and gatherings outdoors are limited to 5 people, maintaining a 6 foot distance. As participants in The Crossing Trek, you MUST obey public health and safety orders.
There are two options for completing your trek:
1. Participants may complete their trek journey on Feb 13, following all public health and safety measures.
2. Participants may wait until the stay-at-home orders are lifted, and complete their trek within two weeks following that. For example, if the stay-at-home orders are lifted Feb 23, participants may complete their trek any time from Feb 23 to March 9.
You can review up-to-date public health and safety orders here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/zones-and-restrictions?gclid=Cj0KCQiA0-6ABhDMARIsAFVdQv-ifPCe8PJYQFRPJdWRI0PYtN6r_bwAQGWwXWDy5lT3NjAdqhjTRZUaAgOrEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Following your completion of your trek, please send an email to trek@waterlooregioncrossing.ca letting us know you've finished. You are encouraged to send in a photo and your route (if you've tracked it). Every trekker will receive a finisher's patch.
