My Story…
"We don't grow when we stay in our comfort zone"
I have always sought to set goals in both my professional and personal life that test my limits and support my development as person and as an athlete. The Ride Across Georgia, a 277.2 mile solo ride from Tybee Island on the Georgia East Coast to the Chattahoochee River in Columbus on the Western side of the State is an event that will definitely test my physical endurance and mental strategy. But that is only a small part of the event. This event raises $ for two worthy charities and the opportunity to reach out to my friends and family to support these charities is what drove me to this event.
The House of Heroes is first of the two charities. They perform minor repairs, maintenance and improvements to military and public safety veterans' homes at no cost to the veteran. As a veteran myself and having worked on a number of homes in the last 15 years I can't say enough about what this has meant to those families. I remember working on the home of a widow who lived in clean but run down house and seeing her face as we put in an new toilet and painted her room. Priceless and necessary.
The 2nd charity, Mercy Med, I have not had direct experience with but their mission is so critical and I feel an instant desire to help. They are Columbus based, right here in our town people. They are a Christian nonprofit healthcare center focused on providing medical services to the underserved. The offer primary care health services to the uninsured at an affordable rate. They also have a farm on 2nd Ave that sells fresh farm products on Fridays from 9-12am and during the summer months also on Mondays, to help with funding their healthcare support.
We can help both of these organization that support local people - veterans both military and public safety and folks that need medical care and can't afford it. Please consider donating any small amount. 100% of what you give will be spit between the two charities. My challenge is to cover the 277.2 miles in under 24hrs on my bike and your challenge is to touch the lives of some needy people in Columbus with a donation of ANY size. It WILL go to people that NEED it. Thank you.
