Rules:
1. Distance:The approximate 50km effort must be done in one continuous run (no multi-day efforts) and must be tracked using either an app where the effort is made public (we like Strava) or a device which can create a GPX file you can send us. Total elapsed time will be the time that stands as your official time.
While we do have prizes associated with completion time and distance, the overarching mission behind this challenge is to promote curiosity and exploration in our city’s trails and an appreciation for the nature we have around us. With this in mind this year we have launched the North Sun Lite option.
2. Segments of Trail: Participants are able to choose any route that they please within the Edmonton River Valley and its surrounding area.
In order to be eligible for top prizes, participants' efforts must contain the following trail segments and be at least 50km in total distance:
- Flat or Flatter Pete https://www.trailforks.com/trails/flat-pete/https://www.trailforks.com/trails/flatter-pete/
- Selkirk Knights https://www.trailforks.com/trails/selkirk-knights/
- Silver Fox https://www.strava.com/segments/25513132
- Machete https://www.trailforks.com/trails/machete/
- Six Shooter https://www.trailforks.com/trails/six-shooter/
- Andres Trail https://www.trailforks.com/trails/andre-s-trail/
- Hustler https://www.trailforks.com/trails/hustler-105285/
Participants are still eligible for additional non-competitive prizing, granted they complete one of the segments, regardless of the distance they run.
It is recommended that participants take the opportunity to familiarize themselves with these trails leading up to the race window.
3. Start & Finish Location: Our recommended start location is Kinsmen Sport Center; however, participants can start and finish where they choose.
4. Recommended Support: Participants are responsible for providing their own food and nutrition during this effort. There will not be aid stations provided. In saying that, runners are encouraged to create their own aid stations. This can be accomplished by utilizing a car or having someone meet you at a specified location.
Additionally, it is encouraged that runners have partners/family members participate with them or help provide support, respecting physical distancing requirements. Please be sure to run prepared with adequate hydration and fuel to support your effort, as it may be several hours. Don't forget a phone and credit card in case of emergency.
5. Prizes: We understand that 50km is a big achievement and there will be several prizes to help celebrate this journey. There will be prizes for the following:
