Indwell

 Indwell was started in the early 1970s when one family saw the need to provide housing for people living on the streets that was a result of de-institutionalization from long term psychiatric facilities without adequate supports and services for people moving into the community. In response, this family took in one person to give them a place to live and help them get back on their feet.  A board formed, and we operated a group home with staff and lots of volunteers until the year 2000 when we purchased our first apartment building. The organization became known as Indwell Community Homes (Indwell) in 2014 and embarked on a period of ambitious growth. 

Today Indwell supports over 700 tenants in four municipalities in Ontario - Hamilton, Woodstock, London and Simcoe, with new projects underway in four more - Mississauga, Chatham-Kent, St. Thomas and the Region of Waterloo.

Indwell's mission is to create affordable housing communities that support people seeking health, wellness and belonging. Our vision is 'Hope and Homes for All', driven by our values of dignity, love and hope.

The first project for Indwell in Waterloo Region is converting St. Marks Lutheran Church at 825 King Street West in Kitchener, into 43 affordable apartments with supports. Funds received from the 2021 KWAR Realtor Run will go towards the capital campaign for our St. Marks Project which is scheduled to open in late 2022.
