Help Halya raise money

For participating in 2021 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon

My Story…

I am walking 5k in the Scotiabank Marathon and reaching out to friends and colleagues to raise funds for the quality of care of our residents. The COVID-19 pandemic has stretched our resources and our capacity to provide quality care to our seniors to the max.

I am walking to raise money to address our most urgent priority  – the replacement of our 25 year-old air-cooling and ventilation (HVAC) system.

Unfortunately, although our Home is aging, it is not old enough to qualify for the recently announced additional government support for capital projects for nursing homes. This additional support is only for Homes where there are no ventilation systems at all. Fortunately, we are not one of those homes but we can’t wait until our HVAC system breaks down completely.

We cannot afford to wait. We know there are breakthrough infections among vaccinated people, and these infections are among those who, like our residents, are frail and have complex health issues. We also know that new variants may emerge and spread even faster.

An up-to-date air-cooling and ventilation system in our Home will improve the air circulation, thus minimizing the possibility of a spread of any air-borne viruses, including COVID-19. Our HVAC system is very much outdated, it breaks often and it is becoming increasingly difficult and increasingly expensive to find parts to repair it.

Your support would make a direct and long-lasting positive impact on the safety and quality of care of our 152 current residents, and many more residents in the future.

Our seniors deserve the best possible care and it is with your support that we will be able to continue to provide it!
