Help Karen raise money

For participating in 2021 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon

My Story…

This year will be my 3rd year participating in the 5K Scotiabank Waterfront Race for a charity organization in Toronto that is so dear to my heart - Urban Promise Toronto!

It's a special year because while the virtual race can take place anytime between Oct 1-31, 2021, I will run on the first day Oct 1st which is just one day after my 30th birthday on Sept 30th. What a great way to start this new decade in my life! :)

I highly appreciate the important work of Urban Promise in the city of Toronto (Etobicoke and Scarborough to be exact) which I know has continued and been even more essential during the pandemic. Today's youth are faced with challenges and negative influences in this broken world, regardless of their socioeconomic status. However, children living in Toronto Community Housing face their own unique sets of challenges such as growing up in broken families, violence, poverty, and destructive cycles to name a few, all while navigating the delicate adolescent phase in life.

Children ages 5-14 greatly benefit from an after school program, seasonal camps, and experiential learning opportunities provided by Urban Promise.

High school youth are empowered through leadership opportunities such as serving as street leaders.

Above all, Urban Promise shines the light and great love of Christ to these children and their families and helps them know and learn just how valued and full of potential and purpose they really are!

I simply adore the ways that Urban Promise invests in the lives of our next generation, especially in communities that are often neglected and where hope seems lost.

I am so excited for this run this year and would love it if you would be willing to support me! I will be broadcasting parts of my run on Facebook live on Oct 1st and if you like, you are welcome to join along, (Location TBD) I'd also love if you provide a donation of any amount to help me reach my fundraising goal of $500. All proceeds go directly to Urban Promise!

Description

Children living in Toronto Community Housing want what any kid wants...

>To be known, accepted and valued.

>To become just like their role models.

>To dream.

They're up against some tough realities...

>material poverty

>lack of resources

>destructive cycles

>broken families

>lure of drugs

>threat of violence

Which can make them feel unworthy, defeated, angry, hopeless.

BUT EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE HOPE, AND EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW JESUS-THE AUTHOR OF HOPE ITSELF.

Join The Run for Promise Team - Raise funds supporting programs where children are known, accepted and valued by positive role models, providing opportunities to dream.
