The Banff Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K offers one of the planets’ most incredible and beautiful running experiences. Starting in the picturesque mountain village of Banff, participants will flow through a series of incredible natural, wildlife, and historical stages as they pass by the serene Vermilion Lakes and journey along the stunning Bow Valley Parkway. The return trek will travel alongside the Bow River and over Banff’s famous bridges finishing to cheering crowds in Banff’s downtown Central Park. Can't make it to Banff this year? Join us in the Virtual Run where you can keep motivated, stay healthy and receive all the amazing race day goodies - you will have your own finish line, but you won’t be alone! You will be connected together with the spirit of the other participants and the strength of the Rocky Mountains!

You can still be part of the fun, stay motivated and get all of the great stuff with the Virtual Event. Choose from any of the distances and complete your event wherever you want, and with the freedom of your own schedule.

VIRTUAL RUN – HOW IT WORKS:
- Select the Virtual Run and select the distance that you want to complete.
- Train for your goal distance!
- Complete your run between our virtual window of June 1st and June 30th, 2022. Your distance can be completed at any time during this period. You can run on a course of your choice whether it is on the road, trails, track, treadmill, or wherever you want (please abide by local health authority and traffic guidelines).
Transfers to a Different Distance
LOOKING TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER DISTANCE?
You can transfer online to a different race distance for a $10 change fee until Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 9:00pm.
*If going from a lower cost to a higher cost race, you will have to pay the additional costs (subtracted from what you have already paid). If you are changing to a shorter distance you will not be issued a refund for the difference in entry fee).
Please note that you will need the correct race bib to start in the event you registered for unless you complete the transfer to receive a new bib. You will not be permitted to start in a different distance at the start line if you do not have the race bib/colour/number that matches that event distance (ie. if you registered for the Half Marathon and decide to run the 10K you must officially transfer to change your distance to start the 10k on race day). In summary, if you want to transfer to a different distance you must officially transfer via the transfer button/link.
Registration Notes and Conditions
- 5% GST will be applied to your transaction at checkout.
- All entries include a commemorative technical race shirt.
- Online registration will close at noon (MST) on Friday, June 17th, 2022 or when the event is sold out.
- An online processing fee will be applied to your online registration into the Banff Marathon.
- All prices listed in Canadian Dollars.
- VISA, MC, Amex, Discover Card, VISA Debit and INTERAC Online accepted.
- Your credit card statement will show a charge from "2022 Banff Marathon" for your online registration into this event.
- Registration is subject to annual final Parks Canada approval.
- By December 31, 2022 participants must be 16 years of age to participate in the Marathon, 14 years of age to participate in the Half Marathon and 12 years of age to participate in the 10K. Participants under 18 years of age must have a statement signed by their parent or legal guardian permitting them to participate.
- Due to the unique character of Banff National Park, a wildlife interaction could occur on the race route. In such cases, the Event Organizers reserve the right to change the race route, delay the race, stop participants on the course until the situation is deemed appropriate to continue, alter the distance of the route, cancel or other measures deemed necessary as per the Event Wildlife Interaction Response Plan. The participant understands this risk and acknowledges that no refunds will be issued in this case.
- All participants must show picture ID at check-in.
- The Event Organizers reserve the right to deny entries or registration changes for any reason.
- Sale and/or transfer of race entries/bib numbers is strictly prohibited.
- A participant with an injury or illness is not eligible for a refund, transfer or a deferral entry to a future event.
- All entries are Non-Refundable, Non-Transferable to another person, and Non-Deferrable to a future event unless otherwise stated in the Banff Marathon COVID-19 policies (below).
- If the event cannot take place in 2022 due to COVID-19 or other such pandemic, the participant will have the following options:
- Free entry in the 2022 Virtual Event OR;
- Free entry deferral to the 2023 event
- If the event is postponed to a future date in 2022, the participant will have the following options:
- Free entry in the newly scheduled 2022 event date OR;
- Free entry in the 2022 Virtual Run
- If the participant is from outside of Canada, and does not have an option to travel to Canada as per an order in place by the Canadian federal government due to COVID-19 (ie. all citizens of the participant's country are not permitted to travel to Canada), the participant will have the following options:
- Free entry in the 2022 Virtual Event OR;
- Free entry deferral to the 2023 event OR;
- A Full Refund (less registration company processing fee)
- As a condition of entry, the participant will agree to the Banff Marathon Rules and Policies.

Race Day Insurance
NOT MEMBER OF ATHLETICS ALBERTA?
An additional "Day of Race" insurance fee of $3.00 will be charged at checkout if no current and valid Athletics Alberta membership # is provided (IAAF memberships from other provinces or other national federations will be accepted). This license fee is for liability insurance purposes/costs helping ensure the participant's safety.
ATHLETICS ALBERTA MEMBERS
In order to have the "Day of Race" insurance fee waived, a current and valid Athletics Alberta membership # (or valid IAAF membership from other province or national federation) must be provided. Proof of IAAF membership will be verified against membership databases and must also be presented at race package pick-up in order to receive insurance coverage and be allowed entry in to the race. You will be asked for your membership # during registration. To look up your membership # click HERE.
COVID-19 Safety
The health and safety of all individuals in the event is a priority.
Participants, staff and volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to participate in any indoor or social activities associated to the event, and fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or provide a negative COVID-19 test to participate in any non-social outdoor activities associated to the event.
Modifications and new procedures are in place to reduce the risks to all individuals involved with the event and provide a safe return to racing. Fortunately, case studies have shown that the risk of COVID-19 transmission at an outdoor sporting event is very low. Regardless, the event has developed strong COVID-19 safety guidelines and operating principles in alignment with sport/industry standards, provincial health recommendations, and other events that have safely relaunched.
The COVID-19 Guidelines for the event include the following measures/mitigations:
