Media Release – April 7, 2022
Medavie Moncton Running Festival set for September 10-11th, and to include Canadian 5K Championships and Resurgo Marathon. All runners welcome to both events.
Two of our Province’s leading sport associations in Athletics New Brunswick and Run New Brunswick along with the Greater Moncton Running Club are preparing the 2022 Medavie Moncton Running Festival for this upcoming September.
Set for the weekend of September 10th and 11th, races will begin on Saturday morning with the Resurgo marathon that will weave through all three municipalities along the Petitcodiac trail system.
Sunday morning will have the running of the Canadian 5K road championships on Assomption Boulevard. The day will start with two 5K races, open to runners of all abilities and a chance to test yourself on the same course the elite will run later in the morning. These races will include Awards for Masters (35+) as part of the Canadian Master’s championship runners and Super Series Awards as part of the RunNB series. They will be followed by a 1K Fun Run to which all youths aged 6 -12 are invited. The elite Men’s and Women’s 5k will follow giving everyone the chance to watch Canada’s finest runners.
“We were provided a unique opportunity by Athletics Canada and the Canadian Masters association to host the first Canadian Road Championship in Atlantic Canada and we want it to be of the highest quality and an inspiration to all.” States Event Chair Mary Brosnan. “Having come through a difficult two-year pandemic, we also intend for this event to bring people back together, whether it be as runners, spectators, or volunteers. We want the Medavie Moncton Running Festival to be a most joyful two days for everyone concerned”.
“There are many activities that will make the weekend exceptional. These include seeing Canada’s elite runners race in downtown Moncton, see runners of all abilities comparing their times with the elites and being inspired by watching many local youths running 1K of the same course. Enjoyable social events also include a Saturday evening re-connect banquet for all participants and a Sunday afternoon reception for our volunteers, partners/sponsors and elite runners. The support provided by both Medavie, and the City of Moncton and all our partners is allowing us to pull off such an event and we are most grateful to all of those who are taking part.” adds Mary Brosnan.
“At Medavie, our mission is to improve the wellbeing of Canadians,” said Bernard Lord, Chief Executive Officer, Medavie. “We are proud to be part of the Medavie Moncton Running Festival to promote healthy living and excellence in sport as a way to inspire people in the community, especially at this time of pandemic recovery. It will be great to see runners of different ages and abilities bring the streets of Moncton to life during the Festival and to help provide an enriching community experience for everyone.”
“Athletics Canada prides itself on the quality of its national events,” states Athletics Canada’s interim Chief Executive Officer, Matthew Gentes. “The involvement of Athletics New Brunswick and its partners, combined with the City of Moncton’s strong reputation at supporting sport tourism events, should deliver an excellent venue for this 5K road championship.”
The 5km race start and finish lines will be located near the Medavie Blue Cross downtown head office, with both Downing Street and part of the Terry Fox Park closed off, as will be Assomption Boulevard from Vaughn Harvey Boulevard to Main Street between 7am and 12:30 noon on Sunday, September 11th. The meet hotel will be the Delta Marriot.
All interested participants or volunteers are welcome to visit the host website or register with Race Roster under Medavie Moncton Running Festival.
