We created Warrior Family Camp in 2017 because we believe that Nature Heals. Scientists are beginning to find evidence that being in nature has a profound impact on our brains and our behavior, helping us to reduce anxiety and stress, while helping us to increase our attention capacity, creativity, and our ability to connect with other people.
Warrior Family Camp is a week-long adventure in the Northern California redwoods that supports families of children suffering chronic illness. It is the first of its kind, a camp designed to support the entire family because we know first hand the ripple effects chronic illness creates. Warrior Family Camp is offered at no cost to the families we support, the goal is to show them how to survive and thrive despite the challenges they face.
Tami, co-founder of It Takes Guts, has taken the saying, “Nature Heals” to heart this year and has been training to hike the John Muir Trail. It is a 220 + mile journey that runs from Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney, in California. Winding through the famed Sierra Nevada, the JMT visits some of the crown jewels of America’s park system: Yosemite, John Muir and Ansel Adams Wildernesses, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. Her plan is to raise enough money to fund camp next year as well as a Nature Heals Program that will enable us to take some of our families on overnight backpacking trips.
We are creating this fundraiser in place of our annual 5K (thanks Covid😉). There are many goals we hope to achieve through this challenge. Raising money of course, but also helping others create memories in nature, reap the benefits that nature has to offer and create new habits that will last a lifetime.
