Help Jess raise money

I'm delighted to participate in my third Run for a Reason with the Minds Over Miles:  Mental Health Matters Team, which seeks to raise money to support practice changing research in the Department of Mental Health at The Ottawa Hospital.  

Last year, we were able to supoprt 7 projects with funds from this. 

$2,500 award was Dr. Anne Mary Abe with her project titled: “Effectiveness of Modified CBT program in depression andanxiety patients living with Epilepsy”. Her project aims to evaluate theeffectiveness, feasibility, and patient-acceptance of a mindfulness-basedCBT program that is rolled out in epilepsy peer groups in Ontario foradults living with epilepsy and co-morbid depression and anxiety. 

Dr. Marco Solmi’s was supported with an awardof $31,080 that will fully fund his research project titled “Antipsychotics in schizophrenia: setting the ground for clinical pharmacoepidemiology in psychiatry in Ontario.” Dr. Solmi’s project will provide a detailed picture of never-previously studied antipsychotic prescription patterns for schizophreniain Ontario, laying the groundwork for further pharmacoepidemiologywork in Ontario and Canada. Results will inform on the gap between guidelines, evidence-based practice, and real-world prescription patterns. This research will prepare the foundation for future educationalactivities to improve prescription patterns, and further research projects,with the ultimate aim of improving quality of antipsychotic prescription in people with schizophrenia.

Epidemiology graduate student Gamal Wafy, supervised by Dr. Jess Fiedorowicz was awarded $3,100 for his project “Investigating the progression of lethality in multiple suicide attempt patients.”

Medical student Nicholas Fabiano, supervised by Dr. Solmi and Dr. Fiedorowicz, was awarded $1,000 for his project titled “The Effect of Exercise onSuicidal Behaviours in Individuals with Mental or Physical Illness.”

Dr. Saumil Dholakia’s cost-effective project “What does sufferingmean to you? A qualitative meta-synthesis of suffering-narratives of people with cancer” earned a $100 award.

Dr. Aroldo Dargél was granted $3,620 for his project “PReMOOD: adigital enhanced measurement-based care ecosystem towards aPRecision Medicine in MOOD Disorders”. His project aims to developa smart-phone based tool that will integrate digital medicineand measurement-based care to promote better assessment, patient engagement, and improved quality of care for patients with mood disorders.

Dr. Douglas Green, was awarded a grant of $600, to aid in knowledge dissemination in open access publication of his completed study “Combining theory and usability testing to inform optimizationand implementation of a primary care depression managementtool”, featuring the Ottawa Depression Algorithm tool for primary care providers.
