I am running for Kate.  Kate was a woman on a mission and put everyone before herself.  She saw the best in people, and took time to listen, study, and empathetically open her heart to the perspective and experience of others.  She was empathetic to the underdog, even when those folks came out blazing hot toward her.  She made imprints on hearts and minds in a quiet way, and her loveliness will be honored through the many lives she touched.

Amazing mom, loving partner, educational innovator, corny joke lover, dear friend, Thai food lover (no baby corns, please), and beautiful human. 

Please consider a donation to support Magee Women's Research Institute and Foundation and I will run my FIRST EVER HALF MARATHON in Kate's honor. I chose this charity because I want more research for WOMEN, I want more cures for WOMEN, and I want my tribe of fabulous women to live, love, and keep doing all the things we do every day despite the patriarchy.   I'm grateful that my-48-year-old legs work (slow and steady!), and I want to remember and celebrate the life and legacy my superhuman friend to the end, Kate Dattilo. 

I miss her. I miss our banter. I miss her advice. I miss her ridiculously amazing style and design advice. I miss how she helped me go high every time I wanted to do something vengeful when hurt by others. Even when she was far away, she talked me down, as workwives are inclined to do.  She forgave me when I was so angry about her leaving me I couldn't even speak. 

And, more than anything, she believed in me, and my ridiculous ideas, and figured out ways to make them happen.

She made me better at everything I professionally tried, and I seriously think Pittsburgh doesn't even know what she did "behind the curtain" to create beauty, inclusive spaces, and diplomacy in all things. 

Trust me, we need more strong, quiet, brilliant women to live longer and fight for the underdog.  A gift in her honor will spur me to believe it is possible.
