My Story…
In September of 2022, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and entered treatment at Hillman Cancer Center. I completed chemo in March of 2023 and decided to run the Marathon relay with my family - all Running For a Reason. We ran last year to support the Mario Lemieux Foundation whom I have worked with since 2010 and who has been so supportive of my cancer journey.
I was hoping not to have a repeat performance but was diagnosed with Merkel Cell Carcinoma in September of last year (ok maybe September is not my favorite month). In October, I was back at Hillman for a pretty aggresive surgery on my arm followed by 25 radiation treatments that wrapped up on February 28th.
About a week before my radiation concluded, I made the decision to run again this year but with some alterations. I will be "running" the Pittsburgh Half Marathon and to be honest will be tickled to death if I can complete the race somewhere in the 3 hour window. My son and his wife will be running with me to keep me on task..:).
If you know me and my cancer journey, there will be no doubt in the charity that I am running for - The Mario Lemieux Foundation (MLF)!!
I would be so grateful for any donations that you can make to continue all the great work that the MLF does but especially their efforts in funding the Mario Lemieux Center for Blood Cancers
Thank you....Luke
