My Story…
Every time I lace up my running shoes I remember my why. Last year I ran for autism research and that will always be a cause near to my heart in honor of Alexander.
Cancer first came into our family in 2012 when my Mother in Law, Peggy, was diagnosed with lung cancer. She fought bravely but lost her battle. My kids lost their wonderful Grandmom and Shane his Mom.
Then in 2014 cancer came back into our lives when I got that call no one wants to hear- my Dad was diagnosed with leukemia. At the time we thought there were treatments that can cure him. But after long year of fighting he too lost his battle to cancer.
The loss is something I think about every day and how much cancer took away from our family. Our family has lost Aunts, Uncles, and many friends to this terrible disease. It makes me angry and sad. How can we fight back?
You fight back by funding the research that will one day cure ALL cancers. And that is where I can join the fight. I am honored to be part of the Runners for Research team that supports the American Association for Cancer Research. I am back for a new challenge in November and I need your support!
What is the challenge? As you know I love my hometown and the marathon. This is where the Freedom Challenge comes in- I am running all 3 races that weekend! Saturday I rub the half and 8k and then onto 26.2 on Sunday. It is one of my favorite weekends in the city besides New Years and I get to be part of ALL of it! That is close to 50 miles in 2 days. This will be tough but fighting cancer is even harder. And so is watching someone you love fight or lose their battle to cancer.
Shane is part of our team, AT Trailblazers, and will run the 8k on honor of his Mom. My friends- Jeremy, Mike and Don are planning to run the marathon. Together we plan to crush cancer all weekend!
So this is where I need your help. Please donate and help create a world with more research and less cancer. Team up with me and the other AACR Runners for Research to raise awareness and fund research on over 200 types of cancers. Please make a donation and let’s crush cancer together. Help me honor those who are fighting and those who we lost like my Dad and Peggy.
I am in deep gratitude for all your support and generosity. You and your loved ones are who I think about when things get difficult. Your encouragement pushes me towards that finish level line. Thank you for always cheering me on and believing in me. ❤️
For the fight,
Linda
