Help Lindsay raise money

Hi all,

I wanted to take a moment to request your support for Campfire Circle – an organization that provides camp and play-based programming to children and their families experiencing pediatric cancer and serious illness. I have had the pleasure and privilege to work with Campfire Circle the past 3 years, and wanted to take a moment to share about their impact and why your donation matters.

1. To me personally, Campfire Circle’s motto of “Healing through Happiness” has been relevant and felt since Day 1 of my involvement. I was one year out of very intense grief in losing Salah, and my first summer at camp in 2022, I felt and personally experienced the meaning of healing through recreation therapy, community, and service in a way I will be forever grateful for. Laughing around the Campfire, singing an incredibly beautiful song about love and hope every night with the families, and being of service to these families undergoing a challenging point in their lives and creating connections, positive memories, and fostering resilience.. meant the world and continues to, as I now work with the organization In-Hospital at SickKids.

2. Next reason to donate: the kids. Kids are kids, no matter what. And when children are faced with the very real challenge of serious illness, it hurts. It’s real, it’s hard, and they are SO brave. To face illness as an adult is one thing, but to be so young and dealt that deck of cards – my heart goes out to each of these kids and their families experiencing this together. They are so strong. I have had the privilege to meet hundreds of youth in my time with the org, and each of them are absolutely incredible. To bring some joy to their lives – in an experience like Campfire Circle offers (games, arts and crafts, canoeing, waterskiing, woodshop, day camps, and ultimately – lifelong friends and community)…. Is an incredible gift to help bring goodness through a challenging time.

3. Lastly, in terms of my connection to Camp – there are a handful of people in my life who have experienced childhood cancer – to my fellow ESA grads, our dear Andrew… and my uncle Tom, who I never met. In their honour, I am connected to camp. And every day (going back to point 2)… these kids show me why this work is worthwhile. 

Any donation is greatly appreciated and goes a long way, as childhood diagnosis of cancer or serious illness grows (proportionately), and the need for social supports expands. Right now, there are waitlists for camp, and your donations help to expand offerings so that more children and their families have access to this resource. Thank you so much.
