My Story
In 2023 I was hired to work Maintenance at Campfire Circle Muskoka, and at first it was just a job, but it has became much more than that. Over the last two years working and volunteering there it has become a place I take great pride in being involved with and a place I will continue to support as long as I am abled.
Campfire Circle is an organization that helps children affected by childhood cancer. Their slogan is "Healing Through Happiness" and they do this in many ways like: hospital visits where they play games or do crafts with you, all the way to a week of camp with onsite IV chemotherapy so kids can attend while still on treatment. Camp is also completely free for the families so everyone can attend.
The camp is amazing and consists of things like paddleboarding, canoeing, waterskiing, archery, high ropes, and so much more. Also, everything is accessible for people of all abilities like: the high ropes course is wheelchair accessible, the waterski boat has a boom, there are lifts to help get in and out of canoes, and lots of other cool things.
I think the best part of camp is the community. Everyone who attends has been in the same situation at some point in their lives, so they understand what other campers are going through. It is a place where kids can go and not be judged for losing their hair or their physical abilities and are instead embraced for being strong. It is a very empowering place where kids who have been through so much can just be kids and that is why I run for Campfire Circle.
