My Story…
This August, I’m lacing up for the PUMA Toronto Women’s 5K to support the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO)—an organization that helps thousands of children and families navigate the difficult journey of childhood cancer.
My goal is to raise CA$350, and every dollar goes toward:
- Financial assistance for families in crisis
- School and work support for kids returning to life after treatment
- Research that improves care and survivorship
🏃♀️ Why I’m Doing This
After a long break from regular exercise, I’ve decided to rebuild my fitness—and what better motivation than running for a cause bigger than myself? This race is my way of taking a healthy step forward while helping others move forward, too.
Even a small donation can make a big impact. 💫 If you believe in second chances, resilience, and the power of community, I’d be so grateful for your support.
👉 Donate here and cheer me on:
Thank you for standing with me and with the kids who need us most. 💛
Description
Hello!
This August, I’ll be lacing up for PUMA Toronto Women's Summer 10K/5K to raise awareness and critical funds for an important cause: The Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO).
POGO ensures that everyone affected by childhood cancer has access to the best possible care and support—from a child’s diagnosis, through treatment and into survivorship. For now, for life.
There are over 4,300 families in Ontario with a child in cancer treatment or follow-up care each year. More than 85% of children diagnosed with cancer in Ontario will survive, but many of these survivors will experience complications either due to the disease itself, complex surgical procedures, or the rigorous rounds of radiation and chemotherapy they were given during treatment.
Funds raised at the PUMA Toronto Women's Summer 10K/5K will:
- provide financial assistance to families so they can pay for out-of-pocket costs associated with their child’s treatment
- support survivors with customized school and work counselling when their disease or its treatment has left them with learning challenges
- fund promising research that examines the impact of childhood cancer and its treatment
"We have so much to be thankful for. I am grateful to our POGO Interlink Nurse, and the teams at the hospital and the POGO Satellite Clinic who go above and beyond to support us, not just for Tim’s treatment but for our family well-being. I am grateful to the POGO donors who, out of the kindness of their hearts, give financial support to help families they have never met. And most of all, I am grateful that cancer didn’t break us. Somehow, out of this very negative situation, our bond as a family is even stronger than before.”
– Karen Palma, mother of Tim
